Harry Carver began his career as a builder and, shortly afterwards, teamed up with his younger brother Horace to establish a builders’ merchant business.

The company becomes limited - Carver & Co. became Carver (Wolverhampton) Ltd.
The business relocated from the Five Ways Goods Yard site to a more central location at 11–16 Stafford Street, improving accessibility for customers and supporting future growth.
John Carver joins the business
The business moved to a purpose-built facility at 54–60 Stafford Street, providing modern, tailored spaces to better support operations and customer needs.
Roy Carver joins the Company and drives growth into Oil, Gas and Aga Cooker markets
Geoff Dalton joins the Company and is later appointed Company Secretary
Carvers relocates to Littles Lane, transforming the railway goods yard into a habitable building for warehousing, showroom and offices
Carvers starts YTS Training Division. Two of the company's directors started with the business through the scheme: Steve Moore in 1983 and Richard Boult in 1987
Henry Carver joined the business at the age of 24, bringing fresh energy and perspective to support the company’s ongoing growth and development. Also, David Carver, John's son, joined in 1985
Purchase of local Timber Merchant Mallison Denny and the business expands
Henry launched the Cashbuild division, introducing a new business stream aimed at expanding the company’s product range and serving customers more efficiently.

Ivan Savage appointed to Carver Board as Sales Director
Henry expanded the business internationally by opening the Baltic office in Latvia. Around the same time, Roy Carver became Chairman, John Carver was appointed Life President, Henry took on the role of Managing Director, and David became Deputy Managing Director.
Geoff Dalton retired from his role as Company Secretary, with Neil Kendrick appointed as Finance Director. This period also marked the company’s 100-year centenary celebrations.
The Carver Hire Centre opened, and the company sponsored its first Carver Wolverhampton Marathon, raising over £20,000 for St John Ambulance.
Roy Carver sadly passed away, and Bryan Purslow was appointed as Operations Director.
John Carver sadly passed away, and Mike McKay was appointed as non-executive Chairman.
ETS was officially formed, marking a new chapter in the company’s growth. At the same time, the business expanded its physical presence by purchasing the Neachells Lane site in Wednesfield, providing additional space to support operations and future development.
Andrell Dinham, Richard Boult, and Steve Moore were appointed as Directors, strengthening the company’s leadership team. Around the same time, TKS was formed, representing a strategic move to expand the business and explore new opportunities.
On 29th February 2012, a significant fire struck, causing a major incident that nearly destroyed the business. The event marked a challenging moment in the company’s history, testing its resilience and determination to recover and rebuild.
The Carver rebuild programme was successfully completed, featuring a new Drive Thru warehouse and a state-of-the-art Builders Village. These modern facilities enhanced operational efficiency and created an improved experience for both trade customers and DIY visitors.
Henry receives Business Person of the Year
Carvers celebrates 21 years of sponsoring and underwriting the Wolverhampton Marathon Events, raising thousands of pounds for charity and hands them over to the Council
The company temporarily closed for one month due to the Covid-19 pandemic, adapting to the challenges it brought. During this period of change, Mike McKay retired, and Jack Carver joined the business, bringing fresh energy and perspective to the team.
Carvers proudly celebrated 125 years of trading, marking over a century of service, growth, and strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and the local community.
George Carver joined the business to take charge of the roof truss division at ETS, bringing leadership and expertise to support its growth and operational success.
Although the 125-year celebrations were delayed due to COVID, the milestone was still proudly marked with staff and customer celebrations at the Molineux and Davenport House.
The company launched Fibo Collect, offering ready-mixed concrete, mortar, and screed to better serve customers’ construction needs. During this period, Jack Carver was appointed as a Director, strengthening the leadership team.
Carvers acquired the remaining 50% of shares in ETS, with George Carver appointed as Managing Director to lead its continued growth. Andy Brabazon joined the company as Finance Controller, strengthening the management team.
Carvers Interiors launches with prestigious Cooker Centre and Bathroom Showrooms, expanding the company's retail and service offerings. The showrooms win 'Kitchen & Bathroom Showroom of the Year' at the Builders Merchants News Awards.
